A few days ago I picked up a second pair of Advent Loudspeakers to stack with the pair I already had.
The new pair has the oak cabs with the bullnose woodwork on the front. The other pair were the version with the vinyl cabs. There is a small difference in the placement of the tweets, but otherwise everything looks identical.
Still...
I have them hooked up to SP-A and SP-B. When I switch back and forth between them, there is a noticeable difference in sound. The vinyl cabs sound noticeably brighter, with less base and a more obvious mid and high range.
The newer oak cabs were recently re-foamed. Would that be enough to account for the difference, or should I be thinking caps as well? Or is it just that each speaker has its own distinct sound? (Tweet controls are set the same - normal - on both sets).
