is that you're missing the diamond in the stylus.
When I got the machine, it skated like that. My repair guy said the diamond had been sliced off, so I bought a brand new Shibata stylus, which worked perfectly until the speed regulator blew up.

When I couldn't stop the skating, I did examine the stylus under a magnifying glass. The diamond appears to be there - at least, there is a drum/cylinder shape with white/clear glints sitting on the very tip of the stylus.
