If it is loose you have more options for trying to pry it open or make a hole in the case (not by drilling which would get shavings inside). Hard to give specific advice without seeing it...

D-Oxit is not always safe for pots.
I recommend Caig Calilube spary for pots (they renamed some of their products. not sure if that is the old name or the new one), and d-oxit only for switches.
