The post about the Sony 2251 got me thinking as to why

I like the older gear, other than its great looks (How can you love a black box?). For me, the Kenwood KD1500 and the Scott 222C (even though modded by Mapleshade) and the Planex planars, etc. have a totally different sound as opposed to "audiophile" standards. Or maybe it's what I listen for...Warm and cozy rather than very much of any hint of analytical "nonsense." Nonsense in this case, meaning that it doesn't matter to me how wide, deep or layered the soundstage is because all I want is that warm, enveloping feel that this equipment gives as opposed to the newer audio gear I own.

I walk into the big listening room and become a listener rather than a music lover...that may be an exaggeration of my thoughts, but it works for comparison's sake. I listen in the big room far more often than I do in any other room, but that's because the music itself is in there, all of the records, all of the CDs. I take them to the other room, but they are returned to the shelves in the listening room.

All I know is that I can't recall when I've enjoyed music more than with the Kenwood table and Scott amp. Where's the imaging? Where's the soundstage? It may be there, but I don't know and I don't care.

Right now I'm caught between wanting the Kenwood in the big room so I can have 2 decks and returning it to the computer room/workshop where that Scott now sits. The only consolation, if you could call it that, is the Scott sounds incredibly good, and warm, and comfy with the ADC CD player.

Apologies offered for the rambling.
