I've soaked removed sealed potentiometers and L pads in 99% alcohol to clean them if I was pretty sure they didn't have grease inside.

Some can be opened up to lubricate (just a touch) after cleaning, if needed.

For me, just using DeOxit never worked as well as a decent cleaning first if it was really scratchy.
