A friend of mine just got a set of Altec Simplex cabs with the original 15's...one looked like it had a tear in it from mice or other inhabitants over the years, but suspension-wise they played fine.

I'd go easy on them at first, hold off on the death metal right away until you're sure nothing is going to come apart :D Absolute worst case, Great Plains Audio has a very good reputation for Altec recones and kits so if you want new soft parts in the future, they're out there...
