For speaker mavens --Aging speaker cones?

I'm wondering how much value there might be in reconing aged (40+ year) Altec 12" drivers. Other than age, these are in great shape, sound good and haven't been abused.

I gather from research that the magnets probably aren't problematic, but just wondering how much the age factor might have diminished these otherwise fine drivers. What changes do the passing years bring about in the paper cones, brittleness, etc, and what sonic effect?

Anyone go thru the experience or A/B to find a difference? What degree of improvement? Minimal / marked?
