A simplistic way of looking at it:
Power equals current * current * impedance
If the impedance is only half (four ohms instead of eight), then current * current must double to get the same power (and same loudness).
However, the current flows through a circuit that passes through both the speaker and the amplifier/receiver. When current * current is doubled in the part of the receiver that the output current flows through, the power dissipated there (heat) also doubles. Be sure it can handle it.
