Saw an ad for some free "large speaker boxes" and saw them described as "ESS" a couple days ago. Didn't want to jinx anything so I didn't talk about the ad. I answered about four hours after the ad was posted. Got an answer last night with phone#. Too late to call until this morning. He couldn't tell me anything about them except woofers were shot. He said he got a lot of emails so I decided to make the 70 mile rt.. Got there and saw some huge speakers in the driveway. Pulled the grills, "PS-1220" on the front label (don't know why he couldn't tell me that), Heil tweeter, a mid and 12" woofer with rear passive. Surrounds gone on woofers and passives. Heavy as hell. Told me he bought them from a friend about 10 years ago for $100. His wife recently told him to throw them out but he couldn't bring himself to do so. He bought some new small speakers. Since there was a big response to his ad he wanted to know if they were worth anything. I told him if nothing else worked the tweeters are probably $175-200 for the pair. He is glad that someone could use them. Brutal drive home. The woofers seem to rub but that may be due to a tight gap. Still in the back of my car until I figure out where to put them.
