Basically digital itself sounds sucky because your taking an analog signal and digitally encoding it and then putting it back to digital and in the case of the MP3 its really compressed because of the size more than anything.
For years I was listening to digital and I basically put my records and turntables away until one day I upgraded and repaired a scott 299 for someone and I needed to check the phono stage..When I did,it was sooooo good that I put my turntables back in the system and I haven't turned on the CDs since other than to test an aux jack.There was that much difference and I can no longer tolerate any digital compressed crap.
