taht I overlooked in the first post:

What I forgot to say is that I plussed the stock capacitance on the board by 340uF, BUT AFTER THE CHOKE, so I would not fry the GZ34.

The other thing I forgot to specify is that the mid-winding connection to OPT from SDS board was left in place at the step when I re-attached the SDS cap board (when plugging in one by one PS components to detect what causes the failure).

Hope this sheds a bit more light into this thing.
