Hi, waldenpuddle:
As you will soon discover, if you do the appropriate research on the web, the VITAVOX company manufactured some truly astonishing loudspeakers over the years. They are also very well known in Europe and elsewhere for their commercial and professional product line, including horns, etc., for theater and PA applications.
I have provided just one URL for images of some VITAVOX products, courtesey of Kerry Brown's "Vintage Audio Trader" site.
The DU-120 is a duplex or coaxial loudspeaker and as I said previously, a product of the late fifties, I believe. This one turned up "naked" at the local Berkeley Flea Market many years ago. I grabbed it immediately, but from the distance, originally thought I was looking at an old Atwater-Kent speaker, believe it or not. The closer I got to it, the heartbeats got stronger and by the time I stood gaping right at it, I thought it was a WE speaker. Then, I recognized the product as VITAVOX, propelling me into a "immediate buy" mode.
In a proper cabinet, loaded nicely, this would probably be right up there competing with the very best of coaxial designs, including those by Altec, etc.
They are essentially pretty valuable to collectors trying to pair them up.
This is the only DU-120 I have ever owned, though. I believe single examples sometimes go for between $200-$400, depending on condition, of course.
I am not at all surprised that your speakers sound as good as they do, frankly, but it would be interesting to know what components are within the cabinets.
Cheers!
