Well...I responded to the "holy grail" post a few weeks ago that I had just picked up a pair of Vitavox made corner-horns.

They're staying!

It has been a long time since I could EFFORTLESSLY reproduce a FULL ORCHESTRA in a large room at high volumes and exceptional clarity. Just crystal clear, effortless MUSIC reproduction. This is not just noise...but MUSIC! The have "P.R.A.T" in ABUNDANCE.

In their own way they are every bit as good as the Wayne "PK" rebuilt quad ESL's that are my main speakers and I am incredibly excited to have figured out a way to work them into my house.

I should note that in the past I have owned both regular Klispchorns as as well as a pair of the Kit versions (that I think may have been Canadian made?) Speakerlab? The K-Horns were circa 1981 (which I hear was a great year for them) and had all original drivers, but updated crossovers. (Driven at the time with Mac MC-30 amps.)

I posted a great story a few years ago about having all 4 of them in the same room and being able to see ALL the windows in the house vibrating on my way home from work one night when my roomate was cranking Michael Jackson and dancing in the living room with a bunch of her friends!) The point of that little story? Original Klipshcorns NEVER sounded this good. You guys know that I am clueless when it comes to electronics, so I can't tell you whether it's the compression driver that Vitavox uses or the size of the horn, the particular crossover etc. But the Vitavox are just in another universe. After I finally figured out a way to get them into the corners and listened to them for a bit I was shaking my head. They simply sounded better than I could EVER remember the original Klipschorns sounding...so I went to the local Klipsch dealer and was able to listen to a new pair of K-Horns for a few tracks. (they knew I wasn't going to buy...so they were just humoring me.) The "sound" of the new Klipsch is NOTHING like the sound from the Vitavox. It's just a different (and inferior) speaker.

I still haven't figured out how I will do speaker switching between the quads and the K-Horns (or "V-Horns" as I plan on calling them!!) Also, they are incredibly efficient and I haven't had to deal with ULTRA-efficient speakers in 6-7 years. My other speakers (Quad ESL's and KEF CS1A's) are only about 88-89db. I'm guessing these are on the order of 103-106db.... so I can hear EVERYTHING from my system as far as hum and noise that was invisible before. I've got some work to do in terms of "quieting" the upstream to these. When I had the MC-30's they were fully upgraded and very quiet. never DEAD quiet...but pretty close.

I had to do some jimmyrigging to get the current set-up and it will take some work to make it permanent, but the GLORIOUS sound from these willl help make whatever work it takes that much easier

In the meantime...I can't stop grinning and I can't stop listening!

These Vitavox are JUST FABULOUS!

Any other Vitavox fans out there?

Oh yeah....I'm on the hunt for a second system now to move the KEF's into another room. heh. It never ends!!
