Back in the '70s when they were new products, I drove a pair of Large Advents with a H-K Citation 12 (ss) amp rated at 60 wpc. After reading about stacked Advents in TAS, I tried it and was impressed enough to buy a second pair. It sounded great for a couple of months, then the amp went cold. The repair tech said it appeared to have been overdriven and ask which speakers I used. When I told him Double Advents he said my amp was not designed to drive that sort of impedance load. So I built a Dyna 400 which offered not only more power but drove the speaker load without any problem.

Many amps are not comfortable driving lower loads so that may be as much of a question as the number of watts.
