Reserve auctions are proven to scare away potential bidders. My wife used to manage an ebay store and the parent company did a study that proves using a reserve actually lowers the selling price by scaring away potential bidders. Most of the time, when a reserve is met, it is just barely met.
Meanwhile, an identical item listed for .99 cents without a reserve will usually fetch the most because it draws the most bidders. (EbAy even has a message when you list something more than $50...it always suggests using a lower starting bid and or lower reserve)
And setting a starting price equal to what you would take also tends to keep bids down.
I am not mad the BIN is gone....most CA-810's sell for way more than my BIN....I just wanted a quick sale and give the buyer a great deal. 8 out of ten times where I use a BIN and a low opening bid, the final price ends up higher than the BIN!
My guess is that the CA-810 will end up in the $90 to $110 range.
