Good posting CJ. That did cross my mind but how much of the weak light output is in the visible spectrum.

I like SS tuners and we use CD players etc. Since I don't like to work on SSS (solid state stuff) I thought of it as a technicians aid. I don't care to have too much around that chain reacts either intentionally or unintentionally. Also the SS domino effect of component failures isn't fun to work on. Give me parts that blow up, smoke, spark, leak, break in half and melt glass when they go bad. Have a beer or a smoke while you inspect it then replace the bad parts and listen to it while repeating step one.
(If you are working on Marantz, McIntosh etc a martini and pipe or cigar might be an apropriate substitution.)
