They were extremely popular and extremely good sounding and they outsold the fisher 500c by large numbers because of the 60 to 90 dollar lower price and the styling of the units were much more appealing to the WAF.
That pearl white finish resonated well with women and many women just didn't like the industrial look of the Fisher 500c in their living rooms.
Also Sherwood was very well known for having the top sounding midrange among receivers and Int amps and this was a big selling point also.
I have an older friend who is in his mid 70s now and he used to be part owner in an audio store called audio communications in Saginaw in the early to mid 60s..Anyway we were comparing the 500c to the s8000 model IV..He said Mikey,men would come in the store to buy the 500c many times and they would go home to get their wives and the minute they saw the 500c,they would almost turn their eyelids down..Thats when I would sell the Sherwoods to them and save them big money because in those days,60 to 90 bazoooms was a lot of bread.
