Hi, JANDG:

I own two pairs of L-65s. They are indeed a remarkably good sounding system. As you undoubtedly know, the 077 "prismatic" tweeter is an incredible driver and alone are worth in excess of $450 a pair.

The first pair of L-65s that I acquired showed up in a local thrift store some years ago and I got them both of an outlay of exactly $20.

I had A Brown Soun in San Rafael, CA (that is how they spell it!) re-foam the woofers, since I did not want to mess things up at all. I also completely restored both cabinets to perfection.

Then, about six months ago, a second pair showed up in the downtown Oakland, CA Salvation Army. They were on the floor, missing both the glass tops and the grilles, but had been bundled up with an inexpensive Sony AV receiver and a multi-disc Magnavox CD player, all for about $70 by the time I got to the counter and revealed my age.

No matter how convincingly I spoke, I simply could not get the folks at Salvation Army to disassociate the other components from the speakers, so I had to take them all home with me.

:-)

Both woofers had been very well refoamed, but on one, I found that the voicecoil was sort of rubbing. I have not done anything yet to correct that, but if you want a speaker system which will reveal what your system can do, these are the ones. They image very well and work to advantage with a wide range of program material and are moderately efficient. One thing that you may discover is that the level controls may need cleaning. My main pair need to have this done, but I am a lazy guy at times and have yet to get inside to clean those controls.

How many people have TWO pairs of them?

I may be the only one on this forum to claim that disctinction.

Gotta go!
