LED's contain a PN junction of crystal material that produces luminescence around the junction when forward bias current is applied. LED junctions are made from gallium arsenide, gallium phosphide or combination of both materials.

Now please stop this thread. I've got an infinite number of monkeys writing various novels over here and they are becoming embarrassed by the scholarship of the opinions developed here.
