I don't think I'd be telling everyone I bought it for five bucks. I also don't think I'd be telling everyone I crashed my Camaro. But it didn't seem to hurt the auction price. I am thinking that Sherwood tube receivers are pretty rare, certainly they are much less common than Fisher models. In fact, I have never seen a Sherwood tube receiver or integrated amp in person. And I own four (might even be five) Sherwood tube tuners.
