Here is what I am using in my computer room for audio playback. It is a Sherwood S-8500. Ratted at 40 WPC RMS. This unit was purchased new by my Mom in 1970. I have given it a full recap and boy does this receiver sound nice. The camera flash washed out the dial lamps. The dial is a bright side lit yellow with a sky blue back lit center tune meter.

The speakers I am using are ones I built. The cabinets are 3/4 inch MDF with a 1/2 inch plywood driver board. The drivers are Infinity car speakers and are very efficient at 92db per watt. The Infinity's are 6x9 three ways with a 1 inch dome mid and a 3/4 inch tweeter. The woofer cone is slightly larger then a standard 6x9. The cabinets are sealed. I am very pleased with the sound quality of these speakers. Tight deep bass, very detailed mids and clear bright highs. Classical music sounds awesome on these. I was amazed at how sharp the brass section sounds!

Combined with the S-8500, these speakers really thump!

Mike
