Greetings all,

I finally started getting sound out of this MA5100 I'm trying to get to work right now, which is good AND bad news. Good because I can finally hear it, bad because volume is very low, sound is heavily distorted and I get really loud - probably full volume, from the power amplifier, I'm guessing, after volume control and such - really loud pops once in a while.

I am guessing this one is due for a complele recapping, but you guys might suggest more specific things?...

I have not tried to bring it up with a variac - my experience is much more extensive with tube gear, so I didn't know how important, and if beneficial, is using a variac with transistor gear. I do know this has been in storage for quite a while (probably years). I'm also told it worked before being stored away.

I appreciate any input.
Best,
Radu.
