Dynaco A25 cabinets before/after

Several weeks ago I received a good amount of help in here, regarding some Dynaco A25 speakers I picked up for free. After they were up and running with my Marantz 2230 I was so smitted with the sound that I moved the combo to the "main" system. So I unplugged my audiophile amp, sold the tube linestage, and moved my ACI Sapphires to the basement system.

But the Dynaco cabinets looked awful, and in my judgement were beyond repair, so I decided to make cherry cabinets, incorporate a pair of Vifa D25 tweeters serving about 14KHz or so, and move the aperiodic vents to the rear. The baffles are veneered MDF, the bracing is MDF, and the rest is cherry.

I realize they can't be called Dynaco A25 speakers any more but the sound that I became smitten with is still there (only better). Having the tweeters symmetrical makes a good difference with imaging, and the Vifas add air and spatial cues without adding brightness. A reasonable amount of bracing tightens up the overall sound.

Even though the grills aren't finished I thought I'd go ahead and post a couple of images.

Thanks again to all for the help, way back in December.

Jim
