For speakers of a size that will actually fit on a shelf, Snell Type K if you have a sub-woofer or won't notice that you are not noticing the bass because the sound that does come out is so good, smaller advents or Boston A-60 otherwise.
Allison made some very good almost bookshelf sized that are just about as good or better, but they had to go on top of all the shelves because the woofers fire up.
