RE: Your short list of best value vintage bookshelf speakers

Early Bose 301 or 301 series II, Boston A60 & A70 & A70 series II, Marantz Imperial 5 & 5G, Genesis 1 & 1+. All in addition to EPI 100 and KLH 17. You mentioned the Smaller Advent, but also consider the Dynaco A25. Also consider the smaller and mid sized ADS models.

Lots and lots of very good sounding 2 ways with smaller cabinets that are suitable for real bookshelves. The original Bose 301 is particularly good since it's designed specifically for horizontal placement.
