Old and newer system synergy!

71.31.205.126

This morning I am listening to the Soundcraftsmen PA5001 (1978-81), Luxman C-383 (1995-?), and Yamaha T-80 (1984-85) through the JBL CF150s. Although this system can play loud effortlessy with 250 wpc and 98dB/w/m amp and speaker systems, I usually play it at low to very low SPL.
The T-80 is a great sounding tuner. It plays the full range with great balance and presentation. I really like this tuner, so much so that I bought a second one!
The big PA5001 is just a very fine amp. Powerful and smooth. The C-383 is simply an excellent preamp and the "line straight" mode makes for the "wire with gain" and no intrustion in the sound (although the C-383 is pretty much like a straight wire in normal mode).
The CF150 are from the late-90s, and are a classic cast-frame 15" 3-way design with 6" (or 6-1/2") cone mide and a sweet mylar-dome tweeter. Even at this low SPL, they are very dynamic and sound fine.
These pieces blend together superbly and provide a great listening experience.
