Because I subscribe to Stereophile, I get the Audio Advisor catalog. It usually winds up in the dumpster, although a few of their products are good values, like the NAD and Cambridge stuff and the Epos speakers.
I put the Frybaby into the same category as the CD demagnitizers and most of the other "tweakery" they sell. Mapleshade also sends me catalogs and they have a lot more "tweakery". a lot of which they seem to make themselves. I doubt you'd see a UL label on their power cords.
Now there's an interesting question. If you use an aftermarket power cord without a UL rating, and there's a fire, do you lose your insurance coverage? or if it's from a manufacturer, and has no UL coverage and starts a fire, can you sue them? You can always sue, the question is whether you could win or not. In that case, I think you'd have grounds.
