However, I can't ever recall the ecstacy that he describes listening to music, live or recorded.I can. And it doesn't necessarily require a big buck system to give that high. Musical enjoyment has always affected me on an emotional level. There are pieces that can cause me to laugh out loud - while others can literally bring a tear to my eye. It doesn't matter that I've heard those selections countless times. I must get my daily fix. Perhaps that is what he is describing.
Unfortunately, there is that (darker) segment of audiophiles where status and prestige play in the mix along with the "mine's bigger than yours" mentality. Which screws it up for the rest of us. Not to mention all those out-in-left-field tweaks. No magic rocks, Bybees, Shakti stones here. As usual, I am of two minds on this topic. The vintage system gives me great pleasure and is likely the one that gets played the most (at least in good weather). On the other hand, the main system provides a touch of musical magic that the Advents just can't match. The damn thing just disappears. I am extremely lucky to be able to have that system without touching the retirement savings.
