Thanks, Corerosin!
Since the tantalums are apparently worth a tremendous amount of $$$, I believe I am going to utilize common aluminum electrolytics for the sake of restoration and deal with the wad of tantalums differently, ie., offer them for sale.
When a cap sells for something like over $30 each with no problem or issue regarding shelf life (according to the official Vishay/Sprague sales rep I exchanged mail with), this makes sense to me.
And, to be honest with you, I probably will eventually offer the Fisher 400-CX-2 preamp for sale either on the classifieds on this site or on Audiogon, since I already own 3 Marantz 7's, 2 McIntosh C-22's and a host of other fine preamplifiers.
Surely someone else will want to own that restored Fisher preamp a lot more than me, but I want to do the restoration for the sake of getting the unit in working condition, not offer it "as found", which if you saw an image of it in the state in which it was found, you would surely understand.
This is what I enjoy about this hobby. It's called "RESCUE-OPERATIONS 1-A".
Thanks!
