I just made a trade (of very nice Rectilinear speakers) for this Pioneer SA-900 amp. It has the same (high) build quality that the SPEC gear I used to own had. Separate boards for various functions. Looks like it was meant to compete with Marantz, etc.

I got it mainly for the MC phono section, so I could use my Ortofon MC cartridge. Overall, the amp sounds very good but there is a lot of hiss in the MC phono section. It's in both channels. Shouldn't be the PS as there is no hum. Is there a way to lessen this noise? Replace caps or transistors on the special MC phono PCB?

I know MC phono is usually VERY sensitive and I can't expect vintage equipment to sound perfect, but if anyone has experience with these sorts of amps, please make suggestions.

Thanks,
Pete
