In the early days of AR and KLH (founded by former AR engineer Henry Kloss) both companies had a close relationship with Arthur Jansen (sp?), inventor of the JansZen electrostatic, though I don't know if a Jansen-designed tweeter ever appeared in an AR-branded product. His smaller arrays were often used as tweeters in combination with the AR-1W, which isolated the 12 inch woofer used in the AR1, AR3, AR3a, and maybe some other speakers. AR was justly proud of their woofer, but only later did they develop their own dome tweeters. Jansen also designed the KLH 9 full-range electrostatic, and later brought out his own line of 2-way boxes with conventional woofers, though I don't think the bass was up to the standard of the AR's.
I think all his designs used the same basic panel, only the full-range one used a lot more of them. My impression is that his panels are considered excellent designs even by today's standards.
A couple years ago the JansZen full-range was revived by a company headed by his son. Don't know if it is still available.
