Mine sound excellent. I have restored and modernized mine, too. I installed RCA input jacks, modern speaker binding posts, an on-off switch. In one, I have changed out all of the electrolytics in the ps, as well as the coupling caps. I haven't had time yet to compare it to my other one with the other updates, but the original elytic and coupling caps (which all test good).
