Since there was some discussion of the various AR-2's a little while back, I thought I'd try to add some information. Here is a scan from the 1961 Radio Shack catalog on the AR-2, AR-2a, and their buddies.
FWIW, I think the AR-2 family's gotten sort of a bad rap in terms of their overall sound here lately. Admittedly my dump-find AR-2ax's aren't exactly "like new", but I don't think that they sound bad at all. I should mention that AA'er "audiogatorjim" kindly donated a pair of like-new MR's to replace the damaged ones in my AR-2ax's. I think that the dome tweeters in my AR-2ax's are like the AR-3a tweeters, not the earlier AR-3 domes.
all the best,
mrh
