The finish has traditionally been called "pale gold" on the original Marantz literature and by Saul Marantz himself on past interviews, IIRC.I don't think the plating is actually gold, but given the cost back in the day, ya never know!!
Oh, BTW, I was checking out the newly manufactured reproduction front panels for the 10B (and model 7) the other day. While it is commendable that they went through all the trouble to have them manufactured, they do not resemble the originals. The shiny silver finish is more reminiscent of Audio Research, IMO.
The Superscope/Standard Radio Marantz pieces do not have pale gold panels, only the early Marantz did.
Unlike the 22 series Marantz and my Audio Research gear, the 10B's finish is very smooth, like some sort of lacquer was applied to the panel. No brushing texture can be felt with the finger...
