Try wiggling the coax and connector where it attaches to your tuner. Unless the tuner electronics are on the fritz, it might be an intermittent solder connection on the receiver's coax connector.

I would also perform a similar test at the antenna itself -or- have your super try it while you listen to your tuner. Have him secure the coax to the antenna then wiggle the connection a bit.

You could try testing with an Ohm meter or continuity tester but I would still try wiggling the connections to see if it's possibly intermittent.
