More good advice. Thanks.
I had a ratscrap antenna and rotor at my two story in Houston but the only station (classical) I listened to had too much compression so it was kind of non-starter. Now I'm in south central texas on the highest hill in town and feel like I've got a shot at both the Austin and San Antonio classical stations. Unfortunately, my dedicated stereo room is on the side of the house away from the Austin station, so I can either put an ugly antenna on top of the house and run ugly wire to the stereo room (it's a separate little building) or, put up a long pole attached to the little building and make sure the signal clears the roof of my house. I'm hoping 25' will be enough to clear the two story house that's between the antenna and the station(s). Whatever, I'm hoping I've got the elevation thingy under control. Tuners, well, right now I have a cheap JVC digital tuner that does incorporate a signal strength read out which might be helpful. I'll see how that sounds before I get too excited. A 10B is out of my price range plus I'm not sure yet just how much I'll be listening to FM. I've got both satellite radios (not as good sounding as analog FM) for catching new releases. If I get interested enough, maybe I'll see about getting one of those SS Japanese tuners a la Sansui, etc. and get it modded and aligned. Funny thing, since I'm an old guy, I thought for a moment you were referencing the Dynaco FM-1, the mono predecessor to the Dynaco FM-3, then I realized you must be talking about the Fanfare, right?
Anyway, what do you think about this plan?
