Hi, Steve:
Thank you very much for posting this image.
Now, everyone can at least see for themselves what is inside the LDR modules in a Marantz 10-B.
NE-2 lamps are a dime a dozen, methinks.
The important thing would be to somehow determine the specification for the original CdS cells for probable replacement.
Did I not tell you folks that the inside components were quite elementary?
Incidentally, some of the later Marantz production units featured rectangular modules, or at least the factory replacements which were offered years ago, were in that shape, since I happen to have three or more of them at home.
VacTec used to manufacture hermetically-sealed parts called VacTrols, (a trade name which Perkin Elmer now owns) and the neon-based versions worked in these tuners. I believe they are no longer available as non-LED parts, however. OTOH, these days there are lots of led-based VacTrols on the market at very low prices.
You might also search for candidates for replacement by using the words "Vactrol Analog Opto-isolators" and see what turns up.
Additionally, I wonder whether our friend, Sheldon Stokes, might possibly have any interest in cobbling up a drop-in replacement circuit board as a substitute for failing LDR modules in the Marantz 10-B?
Sheldon is such a cool guy!
(Hope you are reading this, Sheldon!)
Over and out and thanks!
