Rob,

The "picture frame" front panel does come off. It's held on by two "clips" on the left and right side. Pry it forward - if need be by using a knife or some other slim strong blade inserted between the top corner of it and the main frame. Move from one side to the other - it will eventually "pop" off.

BTW here's one I'm working on right now
