1) Is it a coax fitting on the antenna? If so, no balun needed.
2) I can't see any advantage to anything more than RG-6 for your particular installation. I drilled a hole between floors. Maybe you could run it out the attic, down the side of the house, and inside to the basement.
3) Channel Master makes a nice remote-controlled unit. But you'll need to run a second wire to the antenna. It's smaller than coax. I don't know of a consumer-level rotor that has the IR receiver at the antenna. You might be able to put the Channel Master control head in the attic, but you might not be able to reach it with the remote, and you wouldn't be able to see the readout (direction).
4) You just need enough clearance, which you say you have
5) Quite a bit of loss, apparently, compared to, say, 10 feet above the roof.
6) I might be tempted to call Sears to see if they did installs, or local sat dish companies.
