...Been there...my sympathies. I had the same issue...too much static from all the fluorescent lights etc etc etc. I wanted to listen to both AM and FM....

I solved it by taking a Dewald C800 radio, gutting it and installing a monoblock amp using the Decware Zen schematic....so the radio is just an amp....and I feed signal from the audio out jack of my laptop computer. All of the stations I listen to have live internet feeds...and the AM stations actually sound better that they would have using the original off-air signal. No static...no hassles with antennas...
