Actually, car radios have lousy IF bandwidth measurements so as to compensate for difficult (ie. moving) reception conditions. The trade-off is poorer sound which is acceptable in an (noisy) automobile enviroment.
If it were possible to rip out your car radio and plug it into your home system, you'd be appalled with the sonic quality.
So, in a way, there is no free lunch with radio reception.
