Get yourself a Yamaha T-80 for $50-75 and you won't regret it. Somewhat common on Ebay. Sensitive and selective with good sound. I own thirteen tuners including a Sansui TU-X1 and my T-80's a keeper. OTOH, I just noticed your budget of <500. In that case you ought to check out the Kenwood KT-5020, a phenomenal sounding tuner that's up there with my TU-X1. It can be had for <400 on Ebay. About as sensitive as a T-80.
