Hi, Door Nail:

I have never had this problem with my three 10-Bs, but I wonder whether there might also be a resistor inside the socket which connects to the pins on the rear of the 'scope tube itself?

I personally do not know if this is the case, but in antique radio sets with eye tubes, it is often the case.
