Hello, smollet:
I would be curious to know what the "Doc" did to your FM-1000 tuner that was so "misguided".
Some folks like to modify something in the audio stage to produce a more pleasing sound, but when working, they are indeed good sounding units.
My first example was found at a flea market for $40 one day. From the distance, I swore that it was only a 500-C receiver sitting on the ground, but when I approached and took a closer look, it was indeed an FM-1000 and sitting to its left was an X-1000 amp. I could only pony up the $40 for the tuner and always wished I had enough dough to afford the amp.
Guess what! Three years later, I drove out to the same flea market and underneath a blanket sat a dirty looking X-1000 amp! Two of the output tubes were shot, but the seller looked up and recognized me. He was indeed the same person who originally sold me the tuner and had not been out there in as many years.
Sometimes things were MEANT to be!
Enjoy the tuner!
