Which tuner to get and getting the most from it. Thank God, for the radio!

Getting myself up to speed on my FM setup

I have not worked with my FM setup for a number of years. I have a Kenwood KT-8300 modded by Antenna Performance that has been my main tuner happily playing along for about 4 years. As many here know it is a great tuner. Better at tuning in my area than any of the other super tuners I have tried (and I have had many of them). I am using either a Magnum Dynalab ST-1 or more likey the Antenna Performance Attic Intenna.

Somehow in the last six months the signal has degraded significantly for my favorite station (the one I listen to 90% of the time). I don't really know the cause. I suspect maybe my Intenna was damaged or the signal is just worse. But I can only get things in clearly with mono.

So I thought I would swap in my trusty Fisher 200C since I love the sound of that tuner, but in my location there was always too much multipath for it to pull in a clean stereo signal. Mono it is. I am getting the same interference in stereo I was getting with the Kenwood. But sounds great in mono. Since I am listen primarily to public radio most stuff is voice and mono is ok for that.

I have a cheap rat shack 75 to 300 ohm balun. Would there be a better choice for this? Are these directional in that one should get a 75 ohm to 300 ohm balun rather than a 300 ohm to 75 ohm balun?
