First off the area where I live is situated on the higher elevation at 3400 ft. ASL. And my favorite station has 16 FM transmitters ranging in effective radiated power from 15 watts to 100,000 watts. As every one knows, the higher the power the further away a usable signal can be received. As a rule the high-power sites can be received with most radios at a distance of approximately 100km or farther. However, this still depends on weather, terrain and the quality of the tuner.
This is one of the reasons why I'm able to use just the powered rabbit ear antennae in my basement.
