I grew up listening to SW and still have an album filled with QSL cards from around the globe. At last count, I seem to remember having somewhere near 150 countries verified.
I've even had the pleasure of visiting two of the stations I heard - Radio Belize and Radio Free Grenada.
SW led me to ham radio and after many good years having fun at that, audio is now my hobby of choice. Even Internet radio has its charms. When I can listen to the same station that my son is listening to in Abu Dhabi, well, that's pretty neat.
But SW is where it all started for me and it's sad it isn't the way it once was.
