I can see that it would be easier if the diagonal of the house were facing the transmitters - all four of the angles could be supported by the sides of the house (actually, from the angled supports on either side of the roof). I have not yet inspected the attic, but I don't think it should be too difficult to support one angle on the back of the house, one on each side, and then use something like strong nylon fishing string run from forward and both sides to support the front angle. If I use the full length of the attic, that last part wouldn't be necessary, as I could attach the front angle to the front wall.
Thus far, I have only made a rough estimate as to the position of the house relative to the transmitters, using Google maps. I'll analyse this more thoroughly before mounting the antenna. I'll likely form it on the floor of the attic first, adjust the direction until I get the cleanest signal, and then mount it.
FM Fool indicates I'm about 31 miles from 18 of the transmitters for the NY metro stations, which suggests (to me, anyway, admitting - and perhaps displaying - my ignorance in advance) that the majority use a common tower. I think that an antenna adjusted to maximize signal from this tower would also, by happy circumstance, pick up the other stations in Manhattan, as I believe a line drawn from my house through it would run the length of the island. Further investigation may prove me wrong on that, though. And it's a complete guess on my part that 31 miles and a sufficiently wide angle on the rhombic would cover the width of the island.
FM Fool also shows that my location is surrounded by stations. I'll probably use a second, adjustable antenna to pick up what I can of these, at least until I narrow down the number of stations I like. Rutgers, the local university, broadcasts less than a mile from here. I don't even need an antenna for that one.
Do you think I'm even on the right page, or is everything I've written bunk?
