You need at a minimum an integrated amp and pair of speakers. An integrated amp is made up of a preamp and a power amp. A preamp can also include a phono preamp. Put all this on one chassis and you have a receiver. Put the speakers in the same cabinet and you have a radio or a console depending on the size.

Oh, you also can have a tuner plus preamp and unsurprisingly it is called a tuner/preamp.
