Foreplay: Some Things to Think About

I just built a Foreplay and ran it into my Rotel RB991. I had a hum problem too. I spent about $10 in parts and built a regulated DC filament supply, and implemented a star ground by just re-wiring, and the hum went to nothing. I also had to pad the preamp to lower the gain enough to make the amp happy (it has a 1 volt sensitivity). I then added the anticipation mod and built my own shunt mode attenuators. I can listen to the system now for hours on end. I really like it. I only bring this up because you might be able to save yourself a couple hundred bucks. From the posts I've seen and my own experience the hum from the FP is usually due to the AC filaments, the stock grounding scheme, the gain, or some combination. With a little work I was able to knock my hum dead and I love the result.

I'd be happy to provide more details upon request if you'd like.
